Matt Hawken is still heavily involved in the Leitchville-Gunbower Footy Club and after a short discussion it appears that the Bombers should continue to improve. This follows a pretty good effort last year to be put out in the elimination final by only 26 points by the eventual premiers. This was a magnificent effort considering where they came from in 2022.

Word is things are looking up with player retention and a couple of new ones coming in.

There is a fair bit happening in some neighbouring leagues, so we hope the Bombers can continue to improve in 2024.


Kerang cricketer Alex Lloyd is doing a ripping job with the B Grade cricket write-ups. Covering all local teams is a great effort Alex.

We are looking for a 50 from you this week though Lloydy. Remember, every innings you play, you are getting closer to your next big score.


Murray Mallee Suns Rep team played Ballarat two Sundays ago and it was interesting that this competition uses the Pommy Dukes ball.

Why not use the Ozzie Kookaburra? Must be some sponsorship deal.

Anyway, word is that it swung heaps.


Local shooter Harley Ash has qualified for the shooting Nationals in Wagga Wagga to be held early next year.

Harley top scored in the squad to land the team in second place during September.

He then finished in second place which gives him a spot in the Victorian junior team. Well done Harley and good luck.


Now that Kerang Historical Society have the Ford truck and carriage at the Museum, they would love to hear from anyone who has information or photos of the Kerang-Koondrook Tramway.

They would also like to hear from anyone who has travelled on it so they can compile a complete history.


Better Bookkeeping Management have a Christmas Tree in the Gannawarra Times office where you can donate to the needy. Just grab a tag off the tree and provide an appropriate age group gift of any value and place the gift under the tree.

A good initiative for the festive season.


There’s a thing. We haven’t seen Freddo Fowler in town for a while. Must be busy.

Had a bit of a chat to Keith den Houting who has been pretty keen for the World Cup Cricket.

Keith thinks Kohli is pretty good. A record number of ODI centuries is a fair indication that Keith is right, and it’s his competitiveness that is also admirable.

Keith, a dead set footy fan, is also waiting for the draft period in the AFL.


Had a quick chat to Smiley Anderson last week, and I had to bring up the Collingwood premiership.

Smiley is a die-hard Collingwood man and hasn’t spruiked about their flag at all.

Wheels O’Neill was also in this discussion, and he said “we” keep it quiet. That’s not the norm for a Collingwood supporter, but it’s very admirable from these local lads.

Jeez you blokes – I just needed a bit of “over-the-top” enthusiasm.

Smiley quietly said, with a satisfied smile on his face, that he was at the match.
