A term that I don’t like being used is “your truth”. There is only one truth, whether it be yours or someone else’s. If it isn’t true, then it’s false.
Could be construed as what one believes, although it may be incorrect, but that in no way makes it true.
Buzz-word rubbish.
Just a bit of a thought from the Shire meeting held recently. When we say ‘them’, referring to the Shire – it’s really ‘us’.
Ripping bowling spell by Shamar Joseph, the young West Indian tearaway who claimed seven wickets to knock over the Aussies, and take the second Test.
With all the discussion regarding the Australian Test team and are they doing it right, I still hate to see them lose.
Some say it’s good for cricket. Yep, West Indian cricket, much more so than Australian cricket.
Two top scorers in the second innings for Australia were Steve Smith and Cameron Green. So that means they both hold their spot for the next two years – sorry – two series.
But with Australian cricket finished for the summer, the attention must turn to footy.
We can’t help but remember that Collingwood won the flag. There’s a few folks around town who continually remind us on “Fakebook”.
Devoted Collingwood member, Smiley Anderson is one that just sits back quietly and enjoys the fact that his team were last year’s best, rarely bringing it to anyone’s attention.
Robbo from the Men’s Shed dropped in the other day and it was noticed he was wearing the smart, new Kerang Men’s Shed uniform – red and white polo shirts with the Kerang District Health and Men’s Shed logo’s embroidered on them.
Just wondering about the red and white shirts and then it hit me. Shed manager Harry is a devoted Swans supporter.
It must have been a pretty good sales pitch for Harry to get that past the folk at the hospital – or maybe they would just agree to it, shake their heads and laugh, as I did.
But seriously, the shirts look brilliant.
And while on the Swans, Harry, they can keep their bloomin’ hands off the Blues’ Tom de Koning.
Great photo on the front of last week’s Gannawarra Times with a citizenship certificate being presented. Very cute.
Clearly I am not referring to Mayor Stanton, but Beatriz Frias, five, who received her certificate from the Mayor.
Not that it’s not a good photo of ‘Stanno’, but as far as cuteness goes, Beatriz wins hands down.
Caught up with Robby McLennan last week and we had a decent chat. Keep in mind that it was easy to catch him as he has lost a yard.
We obviously spoke of cricket, both local and international, and of course reminisced about the good old days of Kerang cricket.
Rob was a gun bowler in his day and caused the occasional batsman to duck and weave, but could also hit the spot and get movement both in the air and off the seam.
He would get a bagful of wickets if that young, enthusiastic and fit (?) fella from back then was bowling nowadays.
One legend Rob mentioned was Murrabit’s Don Caldwell, who was a gun cricketer.
Robby was happy to get Don out cheaply and also, any of his sons. Sons Ross, Garry and Rodney could all play the game a bit (understatement).
The rivalry and camaraderie was as it should be back in the day.
Phil Lloyd was in seeing Scrivo about his chainsaw the other day. “Emu”, as you are now retired, be careful, that could mean work.
Emu was a top-line footy player and coach in his younger days, and still looks fit enough to play.
Scrivo’s sporting love has always been motorbikes and he’s made a successful business out of that.
Noticed that in the SHDCA draw for February 3 there was only one senior match played in Kerang over the weekend, the B Grade match Lakers versus Wandella at Riverside Park.
There was also an under-13 match Wandella versus Lakers which was also played at Riverside Park.
There was an A Grade match played at Murrabit, a B Grade game at Koondrook, and an under-16 match played at Barham
On top of that the Murrabit A Grade have played their last four matches at home. What’s going on?
Some teams mentioned second in a match are actually the home team.
It would be great to get some games in Kerang each week as you have four senior teams that can play on three top-line turf wickets.
Congratulations to Fifi White for winning the Young Citizen of the Year Award. It’s wonderful that Fifi says that young folk should “get out and have a go”. Well done Fifi, you are a credit to your parents and the community.
Gannawarra Shire Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Jacqui Hibbert. We all know Jacqui is a community-minded lady.
