NORTHERN District Tennis Association grand finals at Barham on Saturday had teams from Kerang, Murrabit, Gunbower and Barham represented.

Division 1: Kerang Blue v Murrabit. Division 2: Gunbower v Kerang White. Juniors: Murrabit v Barham Navy. Check out sport section for results.

We have the answer to Des Shelley’s question from February 27. The question was, when was the last time Kerang Football Club played footy at Alexandra Park?

The season was 1979 against Union.

Kerang played their last home game of the 1979 season at the new Riverside Park against Border. So Kerang’s second last home game was played at Alexandra Park. That would be played in early August, 1979

I believe that Koondrook won the premiership in 1979. Trout (Phil) Harrison won the first of his three consecutive Barr Medals that year also.

Regarding Webster’s seven-week suspension from the other week. At least the league is showing a bit more intent on stamping it out. Probably could have got eight.

Rather than wait for an incident to happen, why aren’t the umpires instructed to be tougher on this type of thing and give a few more free kicks? Ah, that’s right, they want the game to be fast, don’t they.

Just following up on Deb Cottrell winning the Engel Fridge and boat and trailer package. She said that she doesn’t really need a man, just a Toyota or Isuzu 4WD twin cab ute to tow it all. Preferably white.

Deb said she has sadly had no offers as yet.

One offer that Deb did receive was from Gavin Tarr.

Gav just wanted to go halves in a Tattslotto ticket, hoping to cash in on a bit of Deb’s luck.

P.S. Word is that Deb has been catching quite a few Reddies at Lake Meran on her new rod. Seems they only bite on the new rod.

All the best, folks.

While on fishing, we have heard that KTHS principal Dean Rogers has a ‘honey hole’ over at the Goulburn or Campaspe where he has been catching a few nice Cod and Yella Bellies. (Calling them Yella Bellies as opposed to Yellow Bellies – it just sounds better).

Seems that someone is prepared to secretly follow you one day, Dean, so keep your eye out.

Saw the Midweek Pennant bowls grand final on Wednesday, and Cohuna came out on top in Division 1 and Kerang Golf took Division 2.

These grand finals had been postponed from the previous week due to the heat. We say that as if it wasn’t that hot on Wednesday, but it was hot, as was the action.

Couple of things came to notice: Spike Laursen was quite vocal and would swing his salad stick around a bit. Funny how he uses the stick but is still able to sprint down to follow his bowl. Good on you, Spike.

The crowd were pretty loud on occasions and were keeping a very close eye on the scoreboards. This put the pressure on KBC members Gayle Teasdale and Helen McBain who were attending the scoreboards, changing them following every end. Great work ladies.

Also noticed that the call is “You’re a couple of feet behind kitty”. When will that change to “You’re 60 centimetres behind kitty”? Probably never, and do we really care?

Saw my old footy teammate Freddy Schmidt at the bowls. Freddy is recovering from a broken arm, which is still a bit sore apparently. He says it hurts to lift anything heavier than his cigarette to his mouth, but he can do that OK.

All the best, my friend.

Mentioned Damian Murray in previous Komments, and with bowls being finished he jumped in and had a game of cricket with the Murrabit C Graders.

A classical shot to the boundary over slips contributed to his tally of six runs.

Buddha spent the rest of the day in slips, where his cat-like reflexes could be used to advantage.

Pity that the Murrabit C Grade didn’t make the finals, Buddha, as I think you may have qualified.
