With the Easter break done and dusted, one thing that comes to mind is … wouldn’t it be a great idea to align the school holidays for Victoria and NSW?

It seems that Victoria move their holidays to accommodate the Easter break, whereas NSW have their school holidays in about the second or third week of April no matter what.

But maybe that’s just Kurl being a bit selfish. When visiting the granddaughter in NSW and she is still going to school while it’s the Victorian holidays just doesn’t seem right.

The brains trust of the Kerang Traders, Bec, Sandy and Tracey were having an impromptu meeting in Victoria Street the week after Easter and would have most likely been discussing the events they managed to put on over the Easter weekend.

Congratulations to the women for the great community spirit they display and the work they do.

Declan Hogg and Elsie have made the big move to Kalgoorlie to live.

The way Dec was talking, this is a permanent thing, not a holiday.

‘Go and see what happens’ seems to be their attitude. Pretty sure these two will have a great time whether they make Kalgoorlie their home or not.

They know they will always be welcomed back to Kerang at any time, for a visit or whatever. All the best folks.

A former local and one with local ties to the area have been performing well in AFL. Josh Treacy had a rippa for Fremantle against Port Adelaide, being named Fremantle’s best player.

Jye Caldwell has also been doing well for Essendon. Noticed Jye Caldwell kept his mouth guard in as he had a shot for goal. I liked that.

If your mouthguard is more comfortable in your sock than in your mouth while you have a shot at goal, then you need a new mouthguard – or is this just the “process” thing? Keep at it Josh and Jye.

Attended the funeral of Mr Murray Pay, and because of the legend that he was, many came from far and wide to pay their respects. Mark Brooke was one who hadn’t been seen around Kerang for quite a while.

Mark was a member of the 1979 Wandella premiership, gaining many possessions once he was brought onto the field as an impact player.

Hans Fedke, who now lives over Albury way, was also in attendance and was another coached by Mo.

Another that Kurl hadn’t spotted for ages was Peter Hosking. Now Hocka is still in Kerang, but it’s been a year or two since we have laid eyes on one another. QA catch-up is needed Pete.

All three blokes have been in Wandella premiership teams. Roby Manuel didn’t want me to mention him, so there it is Roby, I didn’t.

Murray Pay’s coach from a premiership in the 50s,.

Ron Free, also turned up and had a few. Doing pretty well for a young bloke in his mid 90s. All the best to the Pay family.

Not only are the AFL not serious about head injuries, they are now letting players off charges because they are good blokes.

Either he did it or he didn’t do it. On the precedent the league has now set, more than half of the AFL players would be permitted to offend as the Brisbane Lions player did and still got off. Totally ridiculous.

Workmate in the front office at the Gannawarra Times is Deb Thompson, who ticked over seven years at the paper last Thursday.

She was heard to say “Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun”. Good on you Deb.

Must say that I loved the photo of Graeme Hayes Real Estate employee Charly Delmenico that was in The Guardian story about the Ultima School closure.

The photo was from a few years ago and a young Charly was seen showing a lack of front teeth alongside her brothers. Surprised that the GHRE staff haven’t blown the photo up and stuck it on the wall … there’s still time.
