Three founding members of the Kerang Whisky Club were in the same spot at one time for a social outing last week. This wasn’t for a get-together or their first meeting, but they just happened to be in the same place.

What’s going on with this lot? If you are ever going to get together for a whisky, there should be nothing preventing this, ever.

At the BL Serp versus Newbridge footy on April 27 and interestingly, there were 12 players on the day that were former Kerang folk, or at least had a direct relationship with Kerang.

Emu and Leanne Lloyd were there to watch nephew Dylan play for Newbridge, that’s the son of Brendan, who spent some time working at The Northern Times way back when.

Will Copland and Ricky Cathie also played in the seniors for Newbridge against BL Serp’s Ryan Prendergast and Tyler Miles.

Nick Gray, Andy and Sue’s lad, coaches the Newbridge Reserves. Also in the Reserves for Newbridge were Jack Teasdale, Brady Treacy, Nathan Burandt, Rylan Hipworth and Tate Leggett.

Not too sure if there has been a recruiting drive or if it’s just coincidence. Either way, the clubs should know they have quality people as recruits.

The fire siren went off a few times last week. Great job by the volunteers who got a crew together to fill the trucks and get out there.

I believe that as of last week, the Kerang CFA have had 75 call-outs since January 1. That’s better than one every second day.

Pretty sure that Cohuna and Leitchville would have had similar numbers.

Thanks so much to the local volunteers who give their time freely.

Former Ultima Primary School acting principal, Sandi Spittal, sister of Frog, has decided to forego the Tonka truck driving in the mines and has decided to go back to teaching, but this time in Tassie.

Sandi had a bit of a farewell dinner at the Gunny pub last Tuesday evening and headed off on the weekend.

All the best Sandi.

Speaking of Frog Spittal, he and daughter Krystal (“Dids”) featured on Deal or No Deal last Wednesday evening and went away with a pretty packet in their hand.

Both were popular contestants and showed they are loyal Gunbower characters. Congratulations Frog and “Dids”.

All AFL football fans should read Hamish Brayshaw’s open letter to the AFL regarding the lack of consistency in the tribunal.

Some very good points were put forward and all eventually questioned the credibility of the tribunal.

There are obviously stories going on about it, but if you get the chance, read the letter. The fourth paragraph gives an indication of the inconsistencies in the tribunal’s decision making.

Hope that something comes from this.

Jake Fraser-McGurk wasn’t selected for Australia’s T20 team for the World Cup coming up in a couple of weeks.

So far in the IPL he has produced 55 from 35 balls, 65 from 18 at first drop, then 20 from 10 when he replaced Warner and the 23 from 14 before a magnificent 84 from 27 and then 12 from 7 balls.

All this while Warner has been dropped from his IPL team due to lack of runs.

It would be different if Warner was only 21 and F-McG about 37, as Warner is now, but no, they are leaving the old bloke in.

Warner could do the job in the World Cup, but so could Fraser McGurk.

Steve Smith has missed out on a spot also but that is probably good selecting.

Also of interest is that Cummins is playing but Marsh is captain. The word is that Cummins needs a rest from captaining and that’s probably also good selecting.

But a concern is Marsh’s form at the moment, although I don’t see who could replace him.

The works are coming along nicely in Welling Street this week.

What is now the Sportspower corner has been completed and they’ll be into the other side this week.

A few folks took the risk and didn’t do as the signage said to ‘use the other footpath’, but walked around the fencing on the road, remaining on the roundabout. Yep, that was me too.

It’s gunna look great once it’s all done though.
