Half G phone service in first place

Interesting that the 3G network shutdown is being delayed by two months.

Irrespective of this, I was at Bridgewater recently watching some footy, parked 20 metres from a tower on the south-east of the ground and could only get one bar on my phone. How come that happens? You’d think that something’s wrong.

What’s wrong is the initial poor service provided in some rural areas.

The T20 World Cup gets under way in USA and the West Indies on June 2.

Jake Fraser McGurk missed out on a spot in the team, and yes, there is plenty of talent that he would be expected to replace, but let’s give the young bloke a go. He is in form, has already played for Australia against the West Indies, so put him in.

David Warner is the first man since 1877 to represent Australia without having played in a first class match and he was given a go. So why are they holding Fraser McGurk back? Jake may never be as good as Warner, but the way we are going, we will never find out.

Warner is still in the Oz T20 World Cup team after poor form in the IPL, whereas Fraser McGurk is in excellent form, having scored three 50s in 20 balls or less. No one in IPL history has scored that many 50s that fast.

Looking to praise this bloke, further research indicates he made a two-ball duck in his last match on May 15. That still gives him 330 runs from 141 ball with an average of 36.67 at a strike rate of 234.04.

While speaking to Lloyd and Maria Lewis regarding the above subject, Lloyd and Maria’s friends Geoff and Bronwyn Hunt dropped past and joined the conversation. Bronwyn most definitely wanted Warner gone, and has wanted this for quite a while.

Yep, he has been great but it may be time.

The Gannawarra Shire gardening crew have done an excellent job in cleaning up the leaves around the Scoresby and Victoria street area.

Funny. We say that as though the job has finished. Still plenty of leaves on the trees, so we can guarantee there’s more work to do.

Popular principal at the Koondrook Primary School, Amanda Bradford has notched up 40 years as an educator in rural areas.

Congratulations on your fine service to the community Amanda.

No, we won’t ask for another 40 years, but another few would be most welcomed.

Last week was Education Week in Victoria and pretty much all local schools had events planned and open days during the week.

The Kerang Primary School celebrated their 150th anniversary.

That’s not a bad effort considering that Woody Patchell (that had to be his nickname didn’t it?) built the bridges in Kerang in 1857, and the school fired up in 1874.

Hope that Jack, staff, students and families all celebrated accordingly.

Old mate Steve, who manages the local BP servos, dropped in for a chat last week.

Steve was a former gun advertising rep at the paper, but now manages the Kerang and Swan Hill BP stations and drives all over the countryside advising other BP servos as far away as Wodonga. Yep, cushy job, and he says he’s busy!

Heavily involved in Little Aths in Swan Hill, he predicts a bumper year for local Little Aths clubs, as they have created a great culture.

All the best, young fella.

From all reports Rowey is doing a great job coaching the Wandella Reserves and they took the long trip to Hay on the weekend with the winner claiming fourth spot on the Reserves ladder as their own.

If Rowey keeps going, and there’s no reason to stop yet, he’ll end up playing with his young fella Seth. Seth is playing some pretty good footy in the Wandella U17.5s and of his four games in the under-14s has been either best or second best.

Could end up better than the old man?

Just hope that the young blokes love the game, then they’ll do all right.
