The Kerang Soccer Club had a great competition between local schools on Sunday, June 2, with Koondrook Primary School winning the championships, defeating Kerang South’s first team. Brilliant job that Kerang South had two teams.
The autumn program has been completed and the new winter program will start in two or three weeks.
The club is currently taking baby steps and is very conscious of offering another sporting option to locals, and will hopefully soon be able to challenge a nearby town.
Old mate Keith den Houting loves his footy and reported on “fakebook” that he visited Ultima a week or two ago.
Keith’s main point of interest on the visit was that Jayden Kiel was dressed in a lovely light blue suit.
This was a punishment for giving away a 50-metre penalty.
Wonderful initiative from the Ultima team, ably coached by Kyle Symons. Hope Kyle can get back from his injury as finals aren’t too far away. All the best to Kyle, well done Jayden and thanks to Keith den Houting for his contribution.
Found out some information about my Grandma recently.
She was married before she met my Grandpa which I was aware of. Now this was all a bit scandalous back in the day, but there was a war on and my Grandma’s first husband went off to do his duty.
Grandma didn’t hear from him for a long time so she began to write letters to the relevant people to see if they could find him.
Turns out that another family member found some of these letters online and realised they were familiar. He showed the letters found to my sister, who identified the hand writing as my Grandmas, matched to hand-written recipes my sister had.
Turns out that my Grandma’s first hubby was KIA in the early moments of battle as his mate had seen him “go over the top”. He had been listed as missing for more than a year. A letter back to Grandma eventually confirmed the sad news.
Makes you think that not many of us have ever had a bad day.
Kerang Footy Club had a reunion for their 2014 Premiership on June 1, and Jim Clark did not ride his bike to the footy with no hands. Some suspect it is because he is unable.
Workmate and the rule-setter for this proposed expedition (see last week’s Komment), Lesley, has even granted permission for Jim to commence his ride on the road, rather than in his driveway, which would most likely prevented a decent gravel rash jumping over the gutter.
Of course safety is paramount as all precautions will be taken, apart from Jim hanging onto the handle bars.
The works in Wellington Street are very nearly completed and look sensational.
One problem though. The Wellington Street crossing at the old Borough building still remains at the moment and was ideal for scooters or wheelchairs, but on the south side of Wellington Street, the only possible way to get up the gutter is at the clock corner, the old Exchange Hotel Bottle shop driveway or up near Autopro.
One scooter was seen on Tuesday coming off the sidewalk at the old Borough building and was forced to drive down the road up to Autopro before being able to get up on the footpath. Of course, cars were building up behind the scooter.
Maybe footpath access needs to be created where it originally was at the old Gilbert Club Hotel bottle shop driveway or directly opposite the path on the other side, which would be in front of Bi-Rite? Just sayin’.
One excellent addition to the street works is that the guard panels in front of the Exchange have been spread apart, so you don’t have to walk around all the tables to get off the road and reach the pub.
Could put a bit of space between the ones in front of the Royal too, one day, maybe.

Harley Reid received a two-week suspension for his sling tackle. Fair enough, those are the rules and have been the rules for quite some time now – players should know this. Same goes for Sam Darcy.
Then some ridiculous commentators start saying how the criteria for the AFL’s Rising Star Award needs to be changed. Why? Is it just so some star can obtain an award he was favoured to win?
Well here’s some news, neither player is able to win it now because they broke the rules. Let’s leave it at that.
