From footpaths to footy

THE new footpaths throughout town look great, but one of the new areas still needs a bit of work.

The footpath in front of the old State Bank is not level. There is a drain there for water to flow into, but because it’s not level, puddles form and the water can’t get away. Not to mention that the footpath is continually covered in pigeon droppings, but that’s probably not the council’s problem.

The concrete could be placed to the height of the step at the doorway so it will flow into the drain, then the bird poo (I told you not to mention that) could be washed away.

The footpath just north of the Op Shop in Fitzroy St seems to be designed to hold water also but it’s a pretty old footpath.

Water runs off the vacant block there (the owner wouldn’t care) and fills the footpath, but the new apron leading to the road is higher than the footpath, so water can’t flow onto the street. A decent step gets you over the water though.

SPEAKING of footpaths, ‘Grub’ and the rest of the McKnight Concreting team have done a good job of the footpath on the south of Sporties, along Wellington St.

The lads had to contend with a bit of rain, a dripping spout and then also move a heap of sprinklers as the new path was just that little bit wider.

Job well done lads.

KERANG Optical have opened in their new premises in Victoria Street.

Jenalle and Kristy have been quite busy recently getting stuff organised for the move and opened the doors on Friday.

The new shop at 57 Victoria Street, previously Tailored Peach, will be a very pleasant and stylish shop and will give both staff and customers a bit more space.

All the best the Jenalle, Kristy and staff.

THERE was no fire at The Gannawarra Times, but the surge protector was running a bit hot so calling the fire brigade was the best option.

The Kerang Fire Brigade team arrived and made sure that all was under control and they aired the place out a bit as well.

Thanks to all for the efficient and expert manner in which they handled the incident.

THE work to update exercise equipment down at Atkinson Park is underway and Gannawarra Times and The Guardian ad rep, Christine Hildenhagen, will hope that it’s all completed pretty soon. She wouldn’t want to miss out on her weekly workout.

PORT Adelaide’s Zac Butters hit Tom Green from GWS in the head (maybe an open hand), was reported, but was then judged okay to play in Saturday’s match via an appeal. There have been a couple of others throughout the year too. Pendlebury and Hogan also eventually got off after being cited.

The AFL said they were going to get tougher on this behaviour, but now the match review mob are indicating that they care not a jot.

While on that, the commentators see someone hit in the head and then make a comment something like, “There’s nothing in that.”

Why don’t they say, “He slapped him in the face”, rather than make a tribunal judgement immediately.

Commentate the facts.

THE Aussies are doing okay in the T20 World Cup and were on and off the ground in the match against Bangladesh which they won by 28 runs by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

Warner made his second 50 of the tournament and fancy that, ‘Kurly’ was calling for him to be dropped.

Think he still had to go on the Tour, but it would have been great to see them putting a bit of experience into Frazer McGurk for an innings or two. That always makes it tough as Warner got a 50 in his first hit. Probably best to keep him going.

Turns out Marsh is the one who hasn’t done that well. But then, what would ‘Kurly’ know?

KERANG had a pretty good win against the Kangas on June 15, despite having quite a few players out.

I’m pretty sure that Trevor Hird over at the Kangas would not have been too happy with that.

‘Hirdy’ had no comeback for ‘Lefty’, ‘Robbo’, ‘Chong’ and ‘Gabby’ no matter what they said.

Makes for a tough day at the footy Trev, but I’m sure you enjoyed the company, but maybe not so much the match.
