Out and about – from sausage rolls to hitching post

Headed to Pyramid Hill footy on June 22 to watch them play BL/ Serpentine. Pretty close game and if you weren’t looking at the scoreboard you’d have thought that Pyramid Hill would win, but Serp got up by a couple of goals.

Caught up with some old friends and it’s embarrassing when you see a face you should know but can’t match it to a name. My apologies to the gentleman on the gate.

Haven’t seen Colin (Stan) Mann for about 45 years. We played a bit of cricket together as kids, but then Colin took off to play tennis and turned out to be a bit of a gun.

He’s still playing too and should line up for another season now that he is fit as a Mallee bull.

Stan has been out of action for a while and was working flat out with Mark Wilkinson putting in some stops the day before he went in for an op.

Once Mark heard Stan was in for the op, he thought he’d better ease off on the workload.

Great to see you’re doing well Col.

Didn’t need to text old mate Leigh Forster at the Pyramid Hill footy for a score update and didn’t get a real chance to catch up.

Must mention that the sausage rolls at Pyramid Hill are as good as anything going around. All made by Leigh’s lovely wife Deb from the Coffee Bank.

There are quite a few folk who meet at Chino’s each week for a lovely cuppa. One group of three lovely ladies are always at the same table. I wondered if they had moved since the previous week.

It turns out that they have been going home. They only way I could tell was because they were at a different table last week.

Hope they have a lovely cuppa.

Ros and Christine at Basile’s are pretty happy with their new steps up to the Basile’s office front door, which were installed by the crew fixing the local footpaths.

Makes it much easier to enter. The previous steps have probably been there for 100 years and were a bit thin and you seemed a bit cramped as you entered the shop.

Speaking of things in the street from 100 years ago. Noticed that the Pillar Box in front of the old Borough building has been taken away, along with the “hitching posts”.

The word is that the pillar box is going to the museum, but not too sure what’s happening with the hitching posts.

Personally, I’d like them put back. They gave the magnificent Borough building a bit of extra character and matched the period of the building to perfection, as does the lamp post on the corner

The old lamp post is still there currently. Hope like heck that it stays. In fact it would be sensational if they (don’t you love it – ‘they’) left it there and got the lamp working.

The word is there’s a pedestrian crossing going in at this corner, so the shire has that part all under control. Great work folks.

Laurie Gray has donated the old Gray’s Bakery Red Delivery truck, the three-wheel bike with box and the bread cart to the Kerang Museum.

Brilliant Laurie, the community appreciates your efforts. Great that some more local history stuff is being kept for future generations.

The Kerang Museum has quite a collection down there by the river. It’s most definitely worth a look.

Andy Gray always gives the thumbs up when you see him while he is driving and it’s amazing how many people he acknowledges as he passes them on the road.

He’ll be in a bit of trouble now as his poor old thumb has been in the wars.

Make sure you put up the correct finger when you are waving Andy, and we hope the thumb heals well enough.

The team down at Max Wilson Tyres are getting a new concrete apron with a drain for the workshop, which will make it a bit easier to handle Semis and other larger vehicles.

Thing is, the footpath is higher than the workshop so the new concrete with the drain should help a bit.
