The right support

BUSINESS arising from previous Komment: Kurl said that Kevin Sambrooks was a Hawks supporter. That is incorrect. It’s his lovely wife Lynn who supports Hawthorn. Kevin on the other hand is a Brisbane Lions supporter and would have had a very interesting night watching the Lions come from way back to sneak the win against GWS.

All the best folks.

THE Ford stencil in front of Arnoldt & Greenwood has been filled in with Ford blue. I would like to think that it was Jason Greenwood who was out there on hands and knees colouring it in with a crayon.

Credit to Jason and the Shire for replacing the previous logo that was in the cobblestones.

MRS Lesley Roberts could not get her son Jon and ‘Lefty’s’ Kerang Reserves over the line on Saturday, but the Reserves players have been making Jon and ‘Lefty’ look good all year.

Congratulations to all on an excellent season though, and well done to the Mallee Eagles.

THE Kerang Senior team also couldn’t get the job done against Nyah Nyah West United. The Nyah lads were just a bit good and deserve the victory.

It has been a wonderful dynasty that the Kerang team have created over the years – they sure do it right. Congratulations to all concerned.

EARLY in the footy season, or was it late last year, Troy Coates announced he was retiring from footy. Mum Carol said to older son Mat that “he’ll be back”. Mat thought Troy was committed to retirement, so a $50 bet was made.

Of course, Mat handed over $50 to his mum. Mat, Mat, Mat – remember, bet responsibly.

RECEIVED a text from Vicki Willkinson saying Kurl should have told everyone she was 60. Then they’d all think how amazing she looks for her age.

Good on you Vic.

KARL Petersen was busy doing some work at home and happened to knock the top off his thumb – no, the other one this time.

Karl is philosophical about it and says it’s happened, it’s done, move on.

The rest of us worry about his coordination or lack thereof.

ONE local Scallywag told me that Pete Colville is switching from Carlton to Collingwood. Not too sure where this person got their info from, but sorry, don’t believe it. (And sources never revealed)

Things may not be the best at the Blues, but seriously…

NO, it’s not snowing in Kerang, although it has been cold enough for September.

It’s just that the freezing wind has been blowing the white blossoms around a bit. Hope that the shopkeepers are doing OK with their doors opening and the blossoms getting in. It’s a small price for some nice trees.

GOT called out for walking with my head down – again. Was just deep in thought (and no, it didn’t hurt). Not looking for the two bob that Jack Whitehead thinks I lost.

NOT a chance that Geelong were ever going to pick Hawkins for the Prelim against Brisbane Lions. That was just a journo grabbing out a name that he knew would make a story. The talk continued all week but the Lions snuck up and defeated the Cats to make their way into the Grand Final.

Some of the finals matches have been great to watch and very exciting.

NOTICE that the Shire has put up some new “Love Your Local, Shop the Gannawarra” flags on the Victoria and Scoresby Street roundabout, replacing the previous flags that were severely frayed due to wind damage.

It may have been better to wait until the end of September to put them up when the wind dies down a bit.

Someone asked the question – “Isn’t the wind considered female?” Well – They call the wind Maria – that’s a song in the score of Paint Your Wagon. It is a beautiful ballad of lonely prospectors hungering for their women, not chauvinistic in this case, just each man yearning for his own girl. – From Wikipedia.
