Gray is up to the task

MUST say that I like the way the Murrabit Cricket Club is running things out there.

Former A Grade star and captain Toby Gray has been unavailable up until round 3, so the brains trust at the Blues have made him come back through the B Grade. Admittedly he took five wickets for eight runs off his eight overs, so he showed he is up the task.

He only got one with the bat so if they want him to make runs, a game in the C Grade could help.

Good on you Toby, all the best.

GOT the spelling wrong for old mate Paul Toey. Oh! We added an extra “o” and “h” making it Toohey, when it should have been Toey. Oh well! Sorry Paul. Paul’s partner should be able to tell him how his name should be spelt.

NOTICED that there have been quite a few forfeits in the cricket of late.

The SHDCA put the pressure on Kerang Cricket Club when there was talk that they may have a C Grade. Then the Calder United team were happy to forfeit because the Wyche races were on. Crikey! I thought that once you had committed to a sport, you played it and would only take a week off for a wedding or funeral and not because of a race meeting. Back in the day we would have had our backside kicked until our nose bled if we did that. (That is just a way of saying we would have been admonished. No one has been kicked).

One thing that a forfeit can do is prevent the team you were drawn to play from making any money that weekend.

Kerang had to commit to the C Grade and have done so brilliantly to this stage, but there were four forfeits in the Swan Hill District Cricket on the weekend of November 2. Not good enough.

I FEEL a bit sorry for the umpire who has been banned for one week for dressing up as Bin Laden.

The AFL said umpire Leigh Haussen co-operated with its investigation and he will begin education work by addressing the umpiring group upon their return to training.

I think that any investigation that goes on could be to find a sense of humour somewhere in the current community. Keep in mind that everybody has the right to be offended.

Admittedly, Bin Laden was a pretty bad bloke, but he has been dealt with. If he dressed as Hitler, I’d hate it and would probably be offended, but I am permitted to be offended, so be it.

ERIN Byrne and Bryce Mimmo raised $11,046 in the Shitbox Rally. Congratulations to you both, a wonderful achievement.

NED Pay has recently lost a yard or two due to a bit of a knee issue. A keen golfer and one that enjoys the annual golf trip, it seems that if Ned can make the golf trip in February, he may be relegated to only driving the buggy.

Don’t think that would be such a problem as the camaraderie is the reason he takes these trips anyway.

This knee issue will put the footy comeback on hold for a while Ned, and all the best with the rehab.

WAS walking past Dan Stubbs’ workshop the other day and heard him yell out rather loudly. Thought he may have been talking to me, but it turns out that he was speaking to some of the relics strategically stored in the corner of the workshop. Bloomin’.

NEEDED to see Nola and Lefty at Autopro and knowing full well that they were returning from Japan on Thursday, was hoping that they would be at work on Friday.

This was mentioned to son-in-law Robbo, and he gave a slight shake of his head with a wry grin, indicating there wasn’t much chance of them being at work until Monday.

SO Ultima have been knocked back from joining the CMFNL in season 2025, but they would still be looking to get there in the future.

Hopefully the Central Rivers Board are doing something to facilitate this move, and to ensure the future of the Golden Rivers League.

The minor league has always been a point of difference in local footy, and you’d think it would be imperative to keep that as it is good for footy

Other Golden Rivers teams have already investigated some of their options if the league folds.

Now that it has been mentioned, some folks are keen to predict that it will last no longer than the end of 2025.

Let’s ignore any predictions and hope that there is a decent fight to keep the league longer than that.
