From racing to Ugg boots

MENTIONED Al Shields receiving Life Membership of the Kerang Turf Club last week, which was obviously a well-deserved reward for many years of service.

Thave been happening down at the Kerang Turf Club, with this year’s December meeting breaking all their attendance records. The kids were well entertained also.

The new undercover area was extremely popular, and the club did an excellent job to cater for the biggest crowd they have ever had. Well done to all.

THERE has been the occasional car hit the solid concrete retaining walls in the main street. The one that is hit fairly often is the first car park out front of Chino’s. Cars backing out often turn too quickly and wonder what they have hit as the concrete walls are a bit too low to see when reversing, and the damn things have got no give.

A pole with a flag to indicate where the concrete wall is would help, but we’d have to make sure it didn’t obstruct drivers’ view of the street.

WHILE on Kerang’s Victoria Street, with its double white lines, it is amazing how many just cross them to grab a park on the other side of the road.

Don’t necessarily require any action taken on this by the authorities but would like to make people aware that you’re not meant to cross double white lines.

WORD is that Koondrook Barham is having a bit of a crack with their recruiting for this coming footy season.

A former QAFL Team of the Year rep who also won a Sunraysia League B&F should get a game you’d think, along with another bloke with experience at the Brizzy Lions. Then there’s the bloke who has won about five B&Fs and a league medal or two.

Also another fella who’s 6’5” and has kicked 100 plus on two occasions.

Should get a bit of enthusiasm back into the border township – Go Raiders.

WHILE on footy, the word is out that Kerang have lost a few, but then I’d be pretty confident that Grayls would have an excellent list of contacts.

Keep in mind that there’s quite a few young blokes in the club who will most likely step up and do an excellent job.

Haven’t heard too much from over Cohuna way, but we love seeing the southern teams in the league have success.

All the best.

JASPA Chamberlain claimed a five-wicket haul in Wandella’s B Grade match against Kerang on January 11. Great job young fella. It’s generally not until their twenties that a leg spinner gets any good, so keep at it Jaspa, you’re hitting the spot ahead of expectations.

In some friendly family rivalry, it was pointed out that Jaspa’s dad Chum has never taken a five-fa but is a very proud dad. The fact that Chum made a couple of B Grade centuries back in the day pretty much puts a stop to any further discussion though.

While on the Wandella club, they held their reverse draw on that same day following the match. Pav talked his mate from over Nullawil way, Pogga Rooney into buying a ticket or two and he said he’d come over, socialise a bit and be happy to take the money home. That’s exactly what he did.

SPEAKING of the Chamberlain family, Jon Roberts’ mum would have been proud of her young fella in the same Wandella v Kerang match as it was noticed that Jon was opening the batting and the bowling for the Kerang team.

Turns out that the usual captain was absent, so Robbo kindly took over and promoted himself to opening batsman and as he got a few runs, he might as well open, coz he wasn’t making any runs down the order.

Jon’s mum, Mrs Lesley Roberts, should be very proud as he snagged a wicket also.

MENTIONED Australia Day last week and as that day is fast approaching, the need was to search for an Aussie flag online. Problem is that a lot of the images are AI and the bloomin’ stars are all over the place. Ridiculous!

Happy Australia Day everyone.

WAS asked “What would you like for tea?” I replied, “What would you like?”

Got back, “I’d like you to decide, but I’ll cook it.” Seems it’s a universal problem.

UGG boots are copping a bit from some big Yank company who got in first and registered the name Ugg and then prevented the first users of the name Ugg Since 1975 from using that name in America or overseas from Australia.

Similar to Trump attempting to register the words You’re Fired as his own. Crazy.
