Let’s hear it for Muzza

SO last week was probably our first taste of the cooler weather and while attending a wedding there were a few coats and jumpers being shared around as quite a few folk didn’t think it was going to get that cold.

Saw Daryl Bray walking the street last Monday with only shorts and T-shirt. He still moves quick enough that he wouldn’t feel the cold.

Yep, it seems we put off that decision to wear the long duds for as long as we can – but that time is probably now. Keep in mind there will be a day or two when we cook and wish we’d worn shorts.

VERY busy time coming up for the local district with the tennis tournaments at Kerang, Cohuna, Murrabit and Barham, local bowls clubs also running their usual Easter Tournaments. The Kerang Cup Race Meeting and the Rotary Club of Kerang’s Annual Easter Art Show will also be a feature of the Easter weekend, along with the Kerang Traders’ Kerang Easter Fair, a street party with live music, face painting, games, and giveaways, and the official opening of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment, including the Kerang Traders’ Easter Fair.

Then there is also a Harley Evo Fest and Show and Shine on the following weekend of April 26 and 27 at the Kerang Racecourse.

GREAT to see that ‘Muzza’ was mentioned in last week’s Gannawarra Times in the TV section as a star of the Alone show in SBS.

‘Muzza’ is originally from the Yarrawalla area and played a bit of footy at the ‘Walla when he was a young lad prior to moving to Bendigo.

Murray is the son of Nug (Neville) and Merran James and brother to Lauren, Deb and Heather.

He’s clearly done a bit of camping in his day.

CAUGHT up with former cricketing opponent Garner Smith the other day.

Yep, he’s still playing, but now he’s over with Nondies having a bit of a hit with their B Grade. Looking at his stats (yep, you can do that online now) the young fella has made a fifty or two. Also noticed that he was run out in one innings. That’d be because he has lost a yard or two since I played against him.

Good on you Garner. Play it while you can.

HAD to head out to the Wandella Footy ground the other day and of course it’s great that the road is sealed up to Scratcher’s place (Is he a councillor or something?), but the dirt section of the road was also in pristine condition after being fixed up beautifully before the upcoming footy season.

The actual oval was also in perfect condition, it made you want to get out and have a kick.

FOOTY tipping competitions are always competitive and the one at the Sporties is hotly contested.

Charmane was leading after round two or three, but two weeks ago she found out how tough it is at the top and tipped only five correct.

The challenge is still on Charmane. Although only four behind the leaders and three behind you, I will get you.

This confidence arises as I am not one to tip my own team no matter who they play. My team being the Blues, if expecting to win, how could I?

CHAIRMAN down at the Kerang Sports and Entertainment Venue, Alyn Fagg was inquiring about my team.

What could I say other than they are going about as well as expected.

Never one to say they will come good or that they are just having a slump, they will win a few games, probably not enough to make the four, but they will linger as they are because they see no need to rebuild.

THIS footy season should see Wandella have a Back-To for their 1985 Premiership. Forty years! Wow. The Bombers were also successful the following year.

Kerang also won the NDFL Premiership in 1985, following their wins in ’83 and ’84. Then they won again in 1987.

A Back-to is always a great excuse for a welcome get-together.

Pretty sure both clubs will celebrate in the required manner.

ONE local Geelong supporter was pretty keen to watch Baz (Bailey Smith) and Paddy (Dangerfield) in the match against Adelaide on Thursday. Did those two travel to Adelaide together? Wonder what the play list was?

THOUGHT that Owen Suter’s gopher had broken down in front of the old State Bank opposite Hall’s Hardware.

Turns out that he was just catching a few rays and waiting for a chat. All the best young fella.
