Out on the road

WAS wonderful to see poor old Oscar taking out two heavy recycle bins at the same time the other week when it was the green waste night.

Would have loved to just sit and laugh – I mean – watch as Oscar struggled to the kerb with the heavy bins, but I thought I’d better lend a hand.

WITH reference to last week’s Komment and Lefty not having done anything abnormally stupid of late. Well, that all changed rather quickly.

Seems that old Bruce ‘Lefty’ Wright parked his car at work. A bit later he was looking for his keys and blaming everyone else, include wife Nola.

Seems that he found them in his top pocket.

His efficient staff have now diligently put them around his neck on a lanyard.

THE Kerang Golf Club is looking to improve their facilities from the DJSIR State Government grant and a Play Our Way Commonwealth Government grant. This will include roof replacement as well as male and female toilet and shower facilities and adding all-abilities toilet and shower facilities.

Better clarify that. They are not shared toilets and showers. There are ladies’ toilets and showers as well as men’s toilets and showers. Both lots will be replaced and all-abilities facilities also added. Phew!

This will make it a lot more comfortable for golfers and bowlers at the club. Look out for when this gets started and it will be brilliant once completed.

WHILE on golf, the local Spitty family are playing some rather handy golf, with 16-year-old Olive playing off a handicap of plus four and 12-year-old sister Mabel is now down to -2.

Then there’s the old bloke (sorry, Dad) Andrew who has broken his own course record at Kerang again.

Olive is the current champion at Kerang Golf Club and also champ at Murray Downs and Commonwealth Golf Club in Melbourne.

Keep at it folks. The club and town are very proud of your achievements.

THE State Over 60s Bowls Championships have been held in the Northen District playing area over the last week, from May 19 to 25.

Just happened to be having a quick look and fluked it that I saw Cohuna Golf Club member Pat Quinn had a win in section 7. I assume he would go on to play another round and hopefully continue winning until the final.

The Men’s Singles were held at Cohuna, Women’s Singles, the Mixed & Men’s Pairs at Barham Bowling Club and the Women’s Pairs were at Deniliquin I believe.

Pretty sure that the local clubs would have had their greens in perfect condition, as they usually are. All are as good as any in the state.

JASON Wiliams spent a bit of time out on Lake Mulwala the other weekend and happened to catch a lovely cod.

Mustn’t be enough for the fish to eat in Lake Mulwala as Willy said he had to stick his hand almost into the fish’s stomach to get his lure back. Jason sacrificed his hand as it was cut up a bit but at least he got the lure back.

Also, it was a successful release of the big cod, well done Willy.

SPENT a bit of time on the road on Friday and headed down to Bridgewater. There was a bit of rain that way – more than we got here – and noticed how it gathers on the side of the road, just off the bitumen.

Of course, this is specifically designed to make the ground under the bitumen a bit softer so the edge of the road can deteriorate and, in the end, cause a pothole.

Yeah, of course that’s sarcasm, but it’s something that could be avoided.

ON the way back from down there I stopped in for a coffee at the Four Posts. It was Adrian on the coffee machine this time and the question must be asked – Who makes the best coffee? Is it Heidi or Adrian? Money could be with Adrian at the moment.

CLEO Lanyon organised a bus of Firies and farmers to go down to Melbourne for protest the new tax on the steps of State Parliament.

Heidi at the Four Posts was ready for the bus load with a brilliant brekkie deal.

Great job to all concerned.

Let’s hope that we get the result that we want and change the State Government’s mind on this rather silly tax.
