Having cake and eating it

AS my lovely lady was giving me a haircut the other day, the clippers needed to be cleaned so she took off the 6mm guide from the jaws of the clippers and commenced to clean them – not that there was much hair to get out of the clippers anyway.

Once the clippers were cleaned, she just hooked straight in without the 6mm guide. So Kurl copped a ‘zero’ cut. Took a while for the laughter to subside.

Donna likes to keep a bit of length on my hair so she can run her fingers through it. Don’t want to do the Millennial comb-over either.


GANNAWARRA Times ad rep Christine Hildenhagen also works in Swan Hill and often makes a cake to suck up to the staff at The Guardian. Last Monday she had the cake and was ready to go to Swan Hill but then got a call to work from Kerang. This meant that Kurl got to finally have some cake for morning tea and the Swan Hill staff unfortunately missed out. Ad manager Jenna was devastated, as were the rest of the staff.

Thing is that Christine then sent the Swan Hill staff a photo of her cake, just to make them jealous.


HAVE it on good authority that the only reason Motlop is still in the Carlton team is because the Blues VFL side doesn’t have anyone good enough to replace him.

List manager Nick Austin has been at the Blues since 2020. Five years should be enough to at least improve. The list manager before him was Stephen Silvagni, who is now the list manager at St Kilda. Ah, that explains it.


OLD mate Ken Jenkins notched up another year last week. He’d be happier now that his Demons are performing a bit better.

Noticed how Aldo started shouting from the rooftops about the Demons being back on track. Steady down there Howard, though I must admit they are more favoured to win a premiership before Carlton. But then so are Essendon and almost every other team, as these teams realise their list isn’t up to scratch. The Blues still think they have a top-line list, although it seems that the footy media is finally realising the Blues’ list is not as good as the media previously thought.


DARBY and Jack must be getting soft. They usually have their coffee outside at Chino’s but have moved into the Patchell Plaza foyer of late.

Darby does give a reasonable excuse saying if they are outside their coffee gets cold too quick.

Nah, soft fellas.


DIDN’T mention last week that the recycle bins that Oscar was struggling with were The Gannawarra Times bins. Most humble apologies to Oscar. Not apologising for laughing, but for not helping sooner.

That’s what happens down the little lane off Scoresby Street. We are a team.

Being able to have a laugh at ourselves is just about essential.


GLEN and Tara Tuohey covered a fair bit of Victoria last Saturday. They started the day in Geelong watching their daughter Rani play in a couple of grades of netball for Geelong West, then they headed to Serpentine to see son Cody play for Mitiamo against the Bears.

Sorry that I didn’t get a chance to catch up Dooley once you got to Serp. I know that Cody performed very well for the Superoos though.

Big day for Dooley and Tara but that’s what you do for your kids. Of course they’d be out at Wandella watching other son Logan have a kick most weekends too.


SO what’s the go with the machete laws now? It’s illegal for retailers to sell them, but folks are still allowed to own them and carry them around. Is that right?

This has got to be great for police, but I would have thought that the Government could have directed the law more to owning them and carrying them in public.

Then there will be a machete amnesty between September 1 and November. It’s good to see that some action is being taken at least.


WHILE at the tenth birthday celebrations of the Bus Stop Recycle Shop, Carol Barton and Pam Munro were honoured with the job of cutting the cake.

Pam and Carol both had a hand on the knife with the aim of cutting the cake together. Had to laugh at the conversation overheard… “Don’t tough the bottom, we didn’t, did we?”. “We did”.
