Catching up with mates

WHILE picking up the car from Swan Hill Toyota, noticed a rather nice-looking old Holden Premier out the front.

John Ritchie at Kerang Toyota was chatting to a bloke then had to answer a call.

Thought I recognised this bloke and after discussing the nice paint job on the old car and its excellent condition, we realised we knew each other from about 30 or 40 years ago. It was that fella Doug McKnight. Now I must admit that I should have put a name to that face immediately, but no, age prevented this.

Doug moved over to Barham about 26 years ago and is still smacking that little white ball around occasionally.

Great to catch up, Doug.

LOCAL lad Shane Selleck was in the barber’s chair having a haircut and as Kurl walked past the window, Shane gave a friendly wave. Thing is, Arhman had the clippers in his hand and he waved too.

I imagined Shane with a strip of shaved hair on one side only.

Good on you guys.

NATHAN Broad, the son of former local lad, Dale Broad, and grandson of Arthur, is doing OK with his tennis. He is currently part of a squad that has travelled to Spain.

Keep at it Nathan.

Nathan’s dad Dale played a bit of footy at Kerang then went out to Wandella for a spell also. Dale’s wife is Gaelle.

I HEAR that a bloke by the name of Trevor is going to take over at the Exchange.

Someone supposedly in the know says he will do a good job and will open when everything is schmicko.

Hope they are right and all the best to ‘Trevor’.

MARK Baker, who is doing a bit of work at the Four Posts tells me that Australian recording artist Shaun Kirk played a gig at Jarklin on Friday, May 30.

Wish I’d known about it. Woulda been there.

Hope he had enough support from the district that he’ll do a return show. Heidi and Andrew are doing OK down there. Good on you folks.

HAD a bit of a chat to JC the other day and it’s great to hear that his boat is being put to good use by son Gregor who has been catching heaps of whiting in Port Phillip Bay.

For those who don’t know, JC is John Campbell from JD Campbell Consulting, and he obligingly stores his boat and caravan at son Gregor’s place down on the Bellarine Peninsula.

It’s great that Gregor calls up each time to let dad know how many fish he is catching from the old fella’s boat.

Think JC could be getting down there a bit in the not-too distant future.

ONE local fella had his body mass index measured.

BMI is calculated using your weight and height – your weight divided by your height squared.

The result wasn’t clear as this bloke couldn’t decide if he was overweight or just too short.

This would all be a calculation of what sized hammer was needed to knock him out.

All the best ‘Shorty’.

GABBY Hayes has snuck a further point ahead of wife Glenice in the Autopro footy tipping. Julie Taylor has snuck one ahead of Gabby to take the competition lead so the pressure is on Mr Hayes.

THE efficient manager down at the Sporties, Charmane Jarvis, was rudely awoken by the Sporties fire alarm going off on her phone at 2am last Thursday morning.

Of course, Charmane has access to all the cameras and frantically checked them to find that there was no fire. It turned out to be a false alarm.

Must admit that it brings a smile to the face imagining Charmane frantically checking all cameras. Phew!

PUT a sign on the door as I go out that says “Back in 10 minutes”.

As most know it is usually way more than 10 minutes that one would be out of the office.

Need to put under that, “If not back in 10 minutes, read the sign again”.

KERANG lost to Tyntynder on May 31. This would be one game that the Kerang lads would have thought they should surely win.

Losing games like that is typical of young teams. Put it down to experience.

LOCAL journalist Ned Coleman spent the long weekend hiking at Feathertop. When asked about the weather prior to his trip, he replied that there is no bad weather, just bad choice of clothing.

Great attitude, Ned, hope you had a rippa.
