Charges laid overfatal min-bus crash

A GUNBOWER man has been charged with serious driving offences, including dangerous driving causing death after a minibus containing 11 people rolled in a horror crash in Arcadia South almost a year ago.

Bruce Kenneth Slater, 75, is charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, negligently causing serious injury, dangerous driving causing serious injury and reckless conduct endangering life.

The charges relate to a mini-bus rollover on Murchison-Violet Town Road, 130km south-east of Gunbower, on May 20, 2021.

One passenger, 40-year-old Echuca woman Casey Spark, died at the scene.

At the time, three passengers were airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries and six passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 10 passengers, including several senior citizens, were on a silo art tour of the Shepparton region when the bus rolled.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged Mr Slater last Thursday.

He was bailed and appeared in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court the following day.

The matter was adjourned and Mr Slater will return to court on August 2 for a committal mention.
