Fire bug sets council bins alight

KERANG police are hunting fire bugs who allegedly set numerous council rubbish bins alight across three locations at the weekend.

The Kerang Fire Brigade was first called to the outdoor Memorial Hall toilets about 4.07am on Saturday to find two bins on fire, before they were called at 4.11am to the Atkinson Park barbecue area to find a further two bins engulfed in flames.

The alleged fire bug then travelled to the Kerang railway station and set one bin alight, failing to catch onto a second one. Firefighters arrived there at 4.24am.

All blazes were quickly brought under control and are now under investigation.

The estimate damaged bill was being assessed.

Local police were unavailable to comment.
