Youth seen running from nearby house fire

POLICE say youths were seen running in a street at the time a nearby Kerang house caught fire.

Firefighters were called to a Lyall Avenue address around 11.20pm on June 22 where they found the house well ablaze.

Three fire brigades attended the scene, including Kerang, Koondrook and Cohuna.

Lieutenant Lee Guest, from the Kerang Fire Brigade, said it took 20 firefighters about an hour-and-a-half to bring the fire under control.

The house sustained significant fire and smoke damage

Youths were allegedly seen running in the street at the time of the fire.

Ambulance NSW also attended the scene, as firefighters were unsure if anyone was home when they arrived at the scene.

After some investigation it was found that no-one was home, and no-one sustained any injuries while fighting the blaze.

Victoria Police are now conducting an investigation into how the fire started.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have seen something suspicious around the time of the fire contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Kerang police.
