‘Late’ developer detected 79km/h over

A PROPERTY developer was caught close to 80km/h over the speed limit at Macorna last week.

The man, 50, was caught travelling 179km/h in a 100km/h zone on Kerang-Leitchville Road on Tuesday last week.

“It’s fairly disappointing when, ‘I’m sure I was only doing 102 or maybe 104km/h’ turns into ‘I’m a professional property developer and I’m running late to get somewhere’ as an explanation,” a police spokesperson said.

The driver was fined $925 and had his licence suspended for 12 months.

Police said his vehicle was not impounded at the time due to the “remote location” and “other factors”.

An hour later, a man, 29, was caught travelling at 142km/h in a 100km/h zone at Lake Charm.

He told police he “needed to go to the toilet”.

“Unfortunately, he had clearly missed the public toilets at Lake Charm, Kangaroo Lake and Lake Boga,” a police spokesperson said.

“He was issued an infringement for $786 and his licence suspended for six months.”
