Person killed in Kerang house fire

A FATAL house fire in Kerang early Saturday is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to an address in Lilac Avenue shortly after midnight to find the property ablaze.

Victoria Police confirmed that a body was found inside the property once the fire was extinguished.

A crime scene was established, before detectives from the arson and explosives squad and an arson chemist attended the property to probe the cause.

Victoria Police confirmed late Saturday afternoon that the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

A CFA spokesperson said seven units responded to the fire, with Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also in attendance.

“(The) incident was deemed under control at 12.46am and safe at 2.35am,” the spokesperson said.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
