Police round-up

GANNAWARRA

Deception: Over a 14 day period, the victim withdrew sizable amounts of cash from her bank and gave them to a person who contacted her purporting to be from her bank. She handed over an amount of $58,000. The person said they were investigating employee theft. Cohuna police were contacted by a concerned business operator in town who thought things didn’t seem right. Police intercepted the persons of interest in Margaret Street, unfortunately the victim had already given them the cash. This investigation is ongoing.

Theft: Between 5pm, Tuesday, February 18 and 6.30am the following day, a Makita blower and whipper snipper were stolen from the shed of a business in King George Street, Cohuna.

Vehicle theft: Between 10am on Saturday, February 22, and 9am the following day, offenders forced entry to a council yard and stole a black 2015 Jaguar XF sedan that was being housed in the compound.

Burglary: Between 6pm, Friday, February 21, and 10am the following day, offenders forced entry to a yard off the Quambatook-Dumosa Road, Quambatook. They stole a four tonne 125KPA Welling and Crossley generator. It was towed away from the site behind a vehicle. It appears that the offenders lost control of the vehicle and left the generator on the Normanville Road.

SWAN HILL

Theft: About 4.30pm on Saturday, February 22, cricketers practising at the Swan Hill Showgrounds saw a person hanging around the changerooms. They later discovered cash had been stolen from their bags.

Burglary: Between 6am and 12.30pm on Thursday, February 20, offenders gained entry to a home in Pritchard Street and stole bank cards.

Theft: Between 3pm on Tuesday, February 18, and 9am on February 20, offenders stole a black and blue Gen Tech generator from the rear of a caravan parked in Bambrick Court. It appears the offenders also tried to force entry to the caravan. A Waeko fridge was also stolen from the address.

Burglary: Between February 4 and 18, offenders gained entry to a residential garage in Thurla Street and stole a blue Tebco Discovery electric bicycle.

Arrest: On Thursday, February 20, a 35-year-old male was arrested in Swan Hill. He was charged with 20 offences including attempted aggravated burglary, numerous theft from motor vehicles, obtaining property by deception and other offences. He was remanded in custody to attend court at a later date.
