GANNAWARRA Shire has a new mayor with Cr Ross Stanton yesterday elected at the mayoral vote.
Cr Stanton, who was first elected to council in 2020, is the first Murray Ward representative to be mayor since Don Harris in 2003-04.
Former mayor Charlie Gillingham chose not to nominate for the position after three consecutive one-year terms.
He was, however, elected deputy mayor unopposed, replacing Cr Jane Ogden.
Cr Stanton won five votes to one, defeating Cr Garner Smith for the top position.
Cr Keith Link was absent.
Cr Gillingham is only the sixth councillor to hold the position of mayor for at least three terms, following Mr Harris, Lui Basile, Keith den Houting, Neville Goulding and Lorraine Learmonth.
Cr Stanton was unavailable for comment.
