Big pitch for little lake

MEMBER for Mallee Anne Webster has pledged close to $1 million to activate Little Lake Boort if the Coalition wins the Federal election.

“I am absolutely thrilled to back the Boort community in improving the appeal and connectivity of the tennis club, bowls club, historic park, croquet club and swimming pool,” Dr Webster last week said.

She said the town would secure $950,000 if elected, to activate and reconnect the parklands at Little Lake Boort with community facilities.

The Loddon Shire project has an estimated total cost of around $1.4 million for the foreshore precinct, with the project master plan including a skate park, three-on-three basketball court, as well as seating, picnic, and shade areas.

The swimming pool will also receive a new eastern entrance, water play features, and fencing, while also on offer are two new synthetic courts for the tennis club, and new storage facilities and a toilet at the croquet club.

“I have to be clear, I can only make this funding a reality if the Coalition wins the upcoming election,” Dr Webster said.

“The Albanese Government have reduced spending in the Mallee by a factor of 20 to one compared to my first term in office under a Coalition government.

“My hope is that Little Lake Boort will be the beginning of Mallee getting back its fair share of Federal spending.”

Loddon Shire Mayor Cr Dan Straub said it was an exciting commitment towards an important project in Boort.

“The plan is developed by the community and reflects their wants and needs,” he said.

Boort Ward’s Cr David Weaver said infrastructure in the area was “getting tired”.

“This funding will help the community-guided plan in place and just bring the area where it needs to be,” he said.

“There will be more in the way of wellbeing, exercise, better amenities and improve access.”
