Masterful music

FINGERS caressed the strings on Wednesday night when world-renowned guitarist duo, Massimo Scattolin and Andrea Vettoretti performed at the Cohuna Memorial Hall.

Close to 50 district residents celebrated the tenth anniversary of Cohuna’s involvement in the annual Murray River International Music Festival.

During the past decade the concerts have enabled classical musicians from Europe to perform across Cohuna.

The hour-long program, which fittingly began with a platter of dairy produce, included a Spaghetti Western Medley.

Mr Scattolin has been described as one of the best guitarist of our time, who regularly participates in international festivals and is the first Italian guitarist to have held master classes at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

Mr Vettoretti has won 12 national and international competitions, including the subinates prize in Switzerland.

Mr Scattolin said he enjoyed playing in rural settings, with loud and raw acoustics.

“It is sensational that they want to enjoy our music, which is very important to us because our mission is to take music everywhere and leave something special behind in every venue we play at,” he said.

“It is a long way from the concert halls of Italy to Cohuna, but for a short hour your life can be transformed by skill and passion to the vaulted ceilings and marble,” organiser, Stephen Henty said.

“Every year the musicians come to experience life in rural Victoria and bring a small international time capsule to Cohuna for our enjoyment.”
