Town gas link information

KERANG residents will have the opportunity to express their interest for a natural gas connection at a community information session later this month.

Works to link Kerang to Victoria’s natural gas network is due to begin in the first quarter of this year, with the majority of the town connected by February 2017.

However, regardless of if the pipeline is shown as passing or not passing their property, residents are encouraged to register their interest as the rollout will be based on community demand.

Project director, Todd Henderson said the session on February 25 will provide residents with information on the project, to ask questions to the project, network and retail representatives and find out about early connection offers.

Natural gas retailer, Tas Gas Retail, which network provider, Brookfield Regional Networks owns, will be the sole natural gas retailer following the rollout.

“We will also be hosting a supplier night for all gas fitters and appliance stores in the area providing them with the supplier specific information on the project,” Mr Henderson said.

Tas Gas Retail will be inviting interested gas fitters and appliance stores to become preferred suppliers.

A council-owned site at the Tate Drive Industrial Estate has been identified as the suitable location for the proposed connection station.

Works to install main supply line between the connection station and town are set to begin in April, before lines linking streets and properties to main supply line are installed in May onwards.

As part of the network, natural gas from Bass Strait will be piped to two compression stations, where the gas will be converted into transportable vessels and taken to a daughter station in the township.

Once commissioned, a main gas line will run from the facility through the town, which will feed gas through minor lines to properties.

Expression of interest forms will be available at the information session, which will be held at the Kerang Memorial Hall, beginning at 6pm.
