KOONDROOK residents could soon have their green waste removed by council.
Council has announced that it will write to residents to gauge interest in a green waste trial.
“Council will contact Koondrook residents in the coming weeks to determine their interest in participating in a trial,” mayor, Lorraine Learmonth said.
“If there was adequate support, a trial would run for 12 months, after which council would evaluate the long-term viability of offering the service on permanent basis.”
Cr Learmonth said the opt-in green waste service had been successful in Cohuna and Kerang with more than 540 residents requesting the service so far.
Murray Ward councillor, Oscar Aertssen said it is a positive step in protecting the local environment.
“Any initiative that will reduce the amount of green that goes into landfill is a good thing,” Cr Aertssen said.
Koondrook Progress Association president, Bryan Goble shared Cr Aertssen’s sentiments.
“The community will benefit from this trial, which in turn sees the environment benefit,” Mr Goble said.
