Acrobatic attraction

A DEATH-DEFYING attraction that sees a performer run, skip and execute acrobatic manoeuvres whilst rotating in a steel cage will feature at the annual Cohuna Show this weekend.

This high adrenaline act is performed 11 metres in the air without the aid of safety nets or wires, making it the boldest attraction that the Cohuna Agricultural Pastoral and Horticultural Society has delivered in 103 years.

The Wheel of Steel, combined with the 9.30pm fireworks, will be the headline attractions on the opening, explosive night on Friday at the recreation reserves.

Gates will open from 4pm on Friday night, with the opening night having a family-friendly focus, when it is expected hundreds of kids will be immersed at the showbag stands.

Large crowds are expected to return the following day, with traditional horse, poultry, dog and cattle judging.

A small goat display will be held to promote Australasian Boer Goat Show, hosted at Cohuna, on April 23.

Local act, the Justuss will perform alongside a face painter and food stalls during the festivities.

The popular Showgirl competition will take place on the Friday at 7pm, with judging for the Miss Cohuna Showgirl, Junior Showgirl and Rural Ambassador.

Snakebusters will provide creepy crawly entertainment for the kids, with the district’s creative talents on display at the pavilion.

To celebrate the show’s recent 100th anniversary, a book is currently being published. Local resident, Kirstin Nicholson, has secured a grant

to fund the book, but requires photos, newspaper articles, memorabilia or stories that may be relevant in the book.

The show office will be open today and tomorrow between 9am and 5pm and Thursday 9am to 12 noon at the Cohuna Guides Hall, Belmont Street, then from 1pm on Thursday at the recreation reserve.
