HDFNL – Bombers look to bounce back

LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER will look to bounce back from last weekend’s loss to Heathcote District Football Netball League premiers, North Bendigo with a win against Colbinabbin tomorrow.

The Bombers challenged the reigning premiers for most of last weekend’s opening round match, but went down by 35 points.

Last season’s grand finalists were one rotation down after Jackson McEwen injured himself in the warm-up – an issue coach Matt Hawken will not have to contend with tomorrow.

It was also a tough weekend for the Grasshoppers, who went down to 2015 semi-finalists, Huntly by 19 points after conceding the final six goals of the game.

Although kicking against the wind in the final term, conceding that many goals in a match would be a concern for Colbinabbin coach Nick Knight, especially against a side that only lost one home game last season.

The Bombers showed last weekend that the club has many avenues to goal, with Daniel Coates, Jack Dye and Daniel Couwenberg all hitting the scoreboard more than once.

Knight will need to be aware of the power this trio possesses, with Tom Hill – who suffered a head knock in last weekend’s match – to run with either Couwenberg or Dye.

Ryan Hon will be a key forward the home side will need to stop, with Hoby Bussey to be given the role to negate the Grasshoppers recruit.

Leitchville/Gunbower defeated Colbinabbin on each of the three occasions these sides met last year, with the 13-point win on a wet Saturday in round 13 the closest the Grasshoppers came to winning against last season’s grand finalists.

PREDICTION: Leitchville/Gunbower will win by 30 points.
