CMFNL – Blues too strong

A THIRD-QUARTER onslaught helped Kerang open its 2016 Central Murray Football Netball League season with a 53-point win against local rivals, Koondrook/Barham.

Luke Cotchett kicked six goals for the Blues, who defeated the Raiders a rematch of last season’s grand final.

The Raiders pushed Kerang throughout the opening half, trailing the four-time reigning premiers by two points at the main break.

However, the home side opened the game up in the third term, kicking 12 goals to three to set up victory.

Matt Coates (five goals) and Troy Thamm (three goals) also dominated for the Blues, whilst Ton May (three goals) led the way for the Raiders

* THE Cohuna Kangas could not spoil Swan Hill’s first home match under lights at the Swan Hill Showgrounds, going down by 39 points.

The Kangas, led by six goals from coach Rick Easton, kept in touch with the Swans for three quarters, before a seven goal to three final term secured the win for the home side.

Mitchell Makepeace and Matthew Wade kicked four goals each for the Swans.
