Shire tour map

GANNAWARRA Shire Council has launched its first ever stand-alone touring map brochure.

The map, which outlines things to see and do in the main towns of Cohuna, Kerang and Koondrook, includes information for tourists on nature-based resources, such as the Murray River, Kerang Lakes, Gunbower Island and Gunbower Creek.

Information and locations for the diverse range of recreational activities to participate in across the shire, including fishing, bird watching, horse riding, heritage, cycling and mountain biking and bush walking and hiking, is also included.

Shire economic development manager, Roger Griffiths said the map is another addition to the extensive range of hard copy tourism material used to support council’s ongoing development of tourism across the shire.

“The key feature includes expanding our range of canoe trails and encouraging more nature-based tourism,” he said.

The map has been professional collaborated with council staff and local graphic designers.

“It is the first stand-alone information tourism map that has been developed, and that has come about through feedback from visitors at our two visitor information centres in Kerang and Cohuna,” Mr Griffiths said.

Mr Griffiths said the inclusion of structured and specific driving routes would encourage visitors to stay longer with more things to see and do.

For example, holidaymakers would be encouraged to explore the 18-kilometre Cohuna Island Road drive, or visit a sawmill, local produce stores, and fashion and homeware outlets during the 56-kilometre Koondrook-Cohuna-Kerang drive.

“This also provides tourists with the option to mix and match their own drives. They can grab a map and identify the services and facilities that interests them in the shire, such as launching a canoe in the Murray at Murrabit and paddling upstream to Koondrook,” Mr Griffiths said.
