Court upgrades to proceed

EFFORTS to bring Wandella Recreation Reserve’s netball courts to current standards have received a boost, with the State Government to contribute the majority of funds to the $113,000 project.

Works will begin in October to extend the total surface area of the reserve’s two courts to match the State’s netballing body’s standards, as well as install competition level lighting across both courts.

Member for Northern Victoria, Steve Herbert confirmed on Friday the Wandella Football Netball Club will receive $82,419 from the Country Football Netball Grant program to complete the works, with the club providing $30,000 towards the project.

“This funding is magnificent news for the future of the club. It will help us to get more players, as well as put Wandella on the map,” netball club president, Jess Keating said.

The club spent the past five years developing the project, raising funds and speaking to local tradespeople regarding what is needed to prevent the courts from deteriorating.

“There are holes on the outside of the courts, and they are cracking up,” Keating said.

The completed project will increase Wandella’s chances of hosting Golden Rivers Netball League interleague squad training, as well as placing the recreation reserve in greater stead for hosting the Golden Rivers Football League grand final.

“Our upgrade of these sporting facilities will give local players and their families the best facilities, and clubs the best opportunity to grow,” Herbert said.
