MARJORIE Coad could be considered a veteran motor vehicle driver.
Her 60-year-old sedan is definitely in the veteran class.
Miss Coad was aged 30 when she purchased her black Morris Oxford sedan from Franzini Motors in 1956.
Now aged 90, she has returned to the place of purchase in an effort to sell her pride ands joy.
Frank Franzini was the dealer principal when she bought the car.
Sixty years and 36,553 genuine miles later, she has asked Mr Franzini’s nephew, Ian, to help her sell it.
Miss Coad said that the car has been very reliable, but it is time to dispense with it.
“I’m finding the steering is harder these days,” she said.
“I like the vinyl seats and the straight windscreen.”
Most of the car’s journeys have been within the district. Miss Coad said that her longest trip was to Stawell and return, an overall journey of just over 400 kilometres.
Mr Franzini said that the car still has its “new-car” smell and is in very good condition. It also has its original black-and-white Victorian registration plates on the front and back.
He said that he has already had a couple of enquiries from interested buyers.
Miss Coad recalls Frank Franzini completing the sales transaction after she dealt with his brother-in-law, car salesman, Cyril Jorgensen.
Ian’s late father, Eric, operated the firm’s Cohuna garage when the car was sold. His grandson, Kyle, Ian’s son, also works in the the business established by Kyle’s great grandfather, Achilles Franzini, just over a century ago.
