CMFNL – Upsets all round

NYAH-NYAH West United and the Cohuna Kangas produced upset wins in Central Murray Football Netball League round five matches involving local teams.

A 10-goal blitz at the Nyah Recreation Reserve secured the Demons’ 29-point win against four-time reigning premiers, Kerang.

The Blues led by 22 points at half-time in a low-scoring encounter, before the Demons turned the game on its head in the third quarter.

Led by Daryl White (five goals), the Demons went into the final break up by 19 points, then rallied late in the final term to remain undefeated this season.

Luke Livingston (six goals) and Brandon Hayes led the way for the Blues, who recorded the club’s first loss since August 2015.

The upset results continued at Cohuna, where the Kangas defeated Lake Boga by 46 points.

In a see-sawing encounter, the Kangas watched an eight-point quarter time lead become a nine-point deficit at the main break, before Rick Easton’s men rallied in the second half.

Kokwam Niki led the charge for the home side, kicking four goals, whilst Rhys Bradley helped to keep the Magpie forward line quiet.

In the other match of the round involving local sides, Koondrook/Barham fought back from a 23-point quarter time deficit to defeat Tooleybuc/Manangatang by 61 points.

The Raiders kept the Saints goalless for the second and third quarters, opening up a 27-point lead at the main break, then extended the margin to 64 points at the final break.

Rhett Sutton and Jay Reynolds kicked four goals each for the Raiders, who have not dropped a game since the club’s opening round loss to Kerang.
