Raining funds for healthy cause

WET weather did not deter close to 100 people from running around Cohuna’s main ovals and outskirts to raise fund for cancer research.

Participants spent Mother’s Day morning completing a five-kilometre course that took in the Cohuna recreation reserve and adjoining bushland as part of the town’s Mother’s Day Classic.

It was the first time in five years the town hosted the event, which started and finished at Garden Park.

The Cohuna Secondary College’s Student Leadership Council oversaw the event, with members assisting with registrations and directing participants along the course.

Other groups, including the Lions Club of Cohuna, Gannawarra Shire Council, Cohuna Neighbourhood House and FreeZa, played a role on the day catering for participants after the completion of the run/walk.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the event’s partners, and the SLC members have done an awesome job,” college vice-principal, Fiona Miller said.

All funds raised will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which supports research projects that aim to find a cure for breast cancer.

“We are pretty impressed to see so many people turn out on a day like this,” college captain, Sam Baxter said.

“It would be great to see the event occur again next year, especially with the enthusiasm shown by the people here today.”
