EMOTIONS were raw before the latest Red Lily Walk began on Sunday.
The annual walk around Riverside Park at Kerang will add to the Kerang Happy Hour team’s already enormous contribution to the Relay For Life effort.
While the walk is held annually in memory of Cheryl and Charlie Beale’s daughter, Nerida, the latest walk was dedicated to Happy Hour friend and team member, Cathy Edwards, who died last month.
“Cathy began her fight (against cancer) eight and half years ago. She kept having treatment, but got on with life,” Mrs Beale said.
She said that mourners responded to Mrs Edwards’ request to support the team rather than provide floral tributes and donated about $1000.
“We miss you dearly,” an emotional Mrs Beale said.
The funds raised on Sunday will be added to other funding efforts before the team participates in the Relay for Life at Echuca.
