DEMOLITION of Kerang District Health’s original aged care facility is almost complete.
The destruction of the former 30-bed Glenarm nursing home marks the beginning of the end of the final stage of the health precinct’s $36.3 million redevelopment.
Nicholson Constructions site manager, Matt Lowe said that the demolition and removal should take about 10 days.
The former Glenarm site will be redeveloped as a public car park and new public entrance. A clump of mature pine trees will be retained as part of the redevelopment.
The original 20-bed nursing home was built at the western end of the hospital 37 years ago and was named after an early private hospital.
Ten more beds were added in 1993.
The new 30-bed aged care facility has been constructed as part of the main hospital complex. Residents were relocated to the new facility four weeks ago, days after acute ward patients moved into the new acute facility on the ground floor of the refurbished original section of the hospital.
The four-year redevelopment project is scheduled for completion in July.
