Meeting of new council

THE administrator of the newly-formed Murray River Council will conduct the first meeting since the formation of the municipality on Monday at Barham.

Interim general manager, Margot Stork spent the past week visiting the former branches of the Murray and Wakool shires to meet with staff to inform them their jobs are secure for the next three years.

Although the location of the new municipality’s main administration office has not been considered at this stage, council meetings will be held monthly and will alternate between venues at Barham, Mathoura, Moulamein and Moama.

Monday’s meeting will be held at the Riverside Reception Centre, located at 15 Murray Street, Barham, from 1pm.

Efforts will soon begin to form a Local Representation Committee, which will provide input into council’s operation plans for the coming two years, and an Implementation Advisory Group that will monitor the implementation of the new municipality.

A second extraordinary meeting will be held at Mathoura on Thursday, May 26 at 1pm.
