CMFNL – Blues look for win before bye

KERANG will be aiming to record one more win before its first bye of the 2016 season when the reigning Central Murray Football Netball League premiers travel to Woorinen tomorrow.

The Blues lead the competition with a 5-1 record after six rounds, and will go into the match against last season’s semi-finalists as strong favourites.

The Tigers may have defeated Kerang when the sides last met in round 14, 2015, but Marcus Demaria’s men have fallen back to the pack this year, with Lake Boga and Nyah-Nyah West United passing the club in the race for the flag.

Although Woorinen won by more than 100 points against Balranald two weeks ago, the club’s other two wins of the season came against the Cohuna Kangas (round two) and Swan Hill (round four).

The Blues rebounded from a round five loss to the Demons, defeating Swan Hill by 38 points two weeks ago.

Kerang’s co-coaches, Troy Coates and Travis Matheson, as well as Brandon Hayes dominated in the win, and will be key players for the Blues tomorrow.

Kyle Steicke and Joel Donnan will be asked to stop Coates and Matheson from controlling proceedings in the visitors’ attacking half of the ground, with Joshua Domaille to take on Hayes.

Doug Palmer and Victor Siciliano loom as danger players in the Tigers’ forward line, with Logan Keighran and Josh Bray to battle the pair.

Kerang won by 36 points when these sides last met at the Woorinen Recreation Reserve in early 2015. A similar outcome will occur tomorrow.

PREDICTION: Kerang will win by 40 points.
