HDFNL – Bombers seek big win

LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER will aim to increase its percentage with a big victory against the winless Lockington Bamawm United tomorrow at Gunbower.

The Bombers share the same number of wins as Heathcote District Football Netball League leaders, Huntly and reigning premiers, North Bendigo, with 14 per cent separating the three sides.

Matt Hawken’s men, who are the in-form side of the competition thanks to eight successive wins, face one more match against a fellow top four side this season, but need to boost its percentage as much as possible before round 18.

The side’s 107-point win against the Cats in round three was the first of five 100-plus point victories against the fifth to ninth-placed sides this season, resulting in an average winning margin of 113.4 points.

The Hawks have managed a triple-figure win on four occasions this season, with the Bulldogs reaching the feat three times.

The Cats went down to Huntly by 121 points last weekend, whilst the Bombers prevailed against the Grasshoppers by 34 points.

It will be the fourth match the visitors have played since the midfield leader, Matt Bongiovanni, announced his retirement following a number of concussions.

Marcus Angove will face a home side midfield littered with numerous options, highlighted by ruckman, Lee Pollock, Jack Dye and on-ball duo, Tom German and Bart Walsh.

Sam Kennedy and Matt Perri, who has kicked 34 goals so far this season, could have a day out in front of goal, whilst Keiran Treacy and his fellow defenders will aim to prevent the likes of Michael Dobson from getting the ball.

Leitchville/Gunbower has won four of its past seven matches against the Cats, with the current run of victories to extend to four tomorrow.

PREDICTION: Leitchville/Gunbower will record a sixth 100-plus point victory tomorrow.
