CMFNL – Tight battle at the top

KERANG and Koondrook/Barham remain alongside Nyah-Nyah West United at the top of the Central Murray Football Netball League ladder.

The competition’s top three sides recorded wins during round 10 action on Saturday to be on 32 points with eight rounds remaining.

Kerang put in a solid performance to defeat fourth-placed Lake Boga by 52 points.

Led by seven goals from Ryan Gillingham, the four-time reigning premiers led after quarter time against one of the competition’s most improved sides.

Although 13 points separated the Blues and Magpies at the main break, Kerang kept the home side goalless to run away with the win.

Across at Barham, the Raiders rebounded after last weekend’s loss to Nyah-Nyah West United with a 16-point win against Woorinen.

Missing Jacob Barrington, Daniel Mowat, Tom May and Jack Thomas, the border side kicked the only four goals of the opening term to lead by 28 points, only to be held goalless in the second quarter to see their lead reduced to 18 points at the main break.

The margin remained around the three-goal mark for the remainder of the match, with the Raiders recording 13 behinds from their 20 scoring shots.

Jay Reynolds kicked two goals for the victors.

The Cohuna Kangas had the bye, and are two wins off the top five.
