Support rally after tragedy

THE Kerang community has leapt to the aid of four children orphaned by a tragic crash at Daylesford on Saturday.

Swan Hill residents Michael and Jo Glare were killed when their sedan collided with a tree along the Midland Highway north of Daylesford just before 8am.

Mrs Glare, 39, and her husband, 41, died at the scene while their 18-year-old daughter, Rhiannon was taken to Ballarat Base Hospital with minor injuries.

Police believe black ice on the road caused the crash. No other cars were involved.

Numerous community efforts have sprung up in Swan Hill to support the liked and respected couple’s four children.

Locally, Mr Glare was well-known among local businesses as a driver for delivery company TNT.

Among the people he delivered to was Kerang Tupperware area manager Kirrily Schlitz , who has already launched a fundraising drive for the Glare children.

“I’ve been doing Tupperware for four years and Michael was one of our gorgeous delivery guys who would always greet us with a smile,” Mrs Schlitz said.

“Immediately I thought of those poor kids and because Michael helped me run my business I wanted to do what I could to help his kids.

“I decided to band together with two managers in Swan Hill to do what we can to support the family.”

The three managers will donate $50 per party booking throughout July, as well as their total commission from sales throughout the month. They are also putting together a raffle.

“We’ve all got kids and we couldn’t imagine a life with our kids having to deal without their parents,” Mrs Schlitz said.

Other local businesses are considering what they can do to support the Glare family.

A Swan Hill resident has also started a gofundme campaign aiming to raise as much money as possible for the Glare children.

More than $22,000 had been donated by noon yesterday.
