HDFNL – Top spot on offer

LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER will be on top of the Heathcote District Football League ladder tomorrow night if the Bombers defeat Mount Pleasant.

The Bombers are favourites to extend their winning run to 11 tomorrow against the Blues at Gunbower, and will benefit from competition leaders, Huntly, having the bye.

A home win tomorrow will leave Matt Hawken’s men two wins clear of the loser of the match between reigning premiers, North Bendigo and Colbinabbin, meaning last season’s minor premiers will be on track for a double chance come finals time.

A win will also give the side a boost going into the anticipated round 15 match against the Hawks, which will determine the minor premiership.

Leitchville/Gunbower shrugged off a gallant White Hills last weekend to win by 34 points – the club’s first double-figure victory margin against a side outside the top four this season – whilst the Blues went down to the Hawks by 128 points.

Carl Thiesz looms as a key player the Bombers need to stop to record a win, with Tom German or Tim Lincoln set to have a run-with role alongside the Blues’ talisman.

If Nick Edwards and Jack Gaze can kick multiple goals each, the visitors could mount a challenge, but this will be difficult against the likes of Keiran Treacy and Steve Pretty.

Daniel Coates, Adam Decicco and Matt Perri have the potential to hurt the visitors on the scoreboard, with the Blues’ defenders unlikely to stop the home side from recording a big win.

Leitchville/Gunbower won by 122 points when these sides last met in round five. A similar margin could be repeated tomorrow.

PREDICTION: Leitchville/Gunbower will win by at least 80 points.
