LOCAL netballers spent Wednesday learning tips through a program designed by a former resident and international player.

Close to 100 girls spent the day at the Kerang Amateur Basketball Association stadium participating in the Netfit program, developed by Julie Corletto and Sarah Wall.
Participants – ranging from new players to those who have represented their associations at interleague level – completed a number of drills that focused on shooting, passing and defending.
Mini games occurred throughout the six-hour program, which finished with a fitness session designed specifically for the sport.
Those in attendance also learnt about the commitment needed to make it to the top of the sport, with participants shown how ice baths, nutrition and stretching can prolong careers.
One of the program’s highlights was a 30-minute presentation from Corletto regarding her career, which began at Kerang.
The 29-year-old made her national competition debut in 2004, going on to win premierships with the Melbourne Phoenix in 2005 and the Melbourne Vixens in 2009 in the Trans-Tasman competition.
The defender made her international debut with the Australian Diamonds in 2007, winning world titles in 2007, 2011 and last year, with the final against New Zealand her last match before retirement.
“Both Sarah and I are country girls, so it is exciting to get back to the country,” Corletto said.
