Ball funds for oval

KERANG Primary School’s oval will benefit from funds raised at this month’s Waterwonderland Debutante Balls.

All proceeds from both nights, held at the Kerang Memorial Hall, will be used to help upgrade the school’s oval.

It is the second year the school will benefit from the ball, with staff members and parents assisting on both nights with security.

“The committee feels that the school does not get much support from the State Government and the community uses the oval for many events,” ball co-ordinator, Joyce Gee said.

The school will use the funds to improve the watering system of the school’s oval, as well as increase safety measures for the adjoining netball and basketball courts.

“We have been on a fund-raising drive to upgrade our school oval, which is being used more often outside school hours by the community,” school principal, Brenton Taylor said.

“Funding will also be used to put padding around the netball and basketball hoops and provide better line markings.”

Each ball featured five debutantes who made their debut, attracting around 600 people across both nights.

“Both balls went off extremely well and were well supported,” Mrs Gee said.

“What you put in with the kids is what you get back in return.”

This year’s balls also marked the end of an era for long-serving volunteer, Kaye Ash.

The committee’s secretary is retiring from the role after 13 years, with a presentation made at Saturday’s event.
