Dance weekend attracts visitors

THE Waltz, the Pride of Erin and the progressive Barn Dance have been attracting old time dancing enthusiasts to Kerang for more than four decades.

The latest weekend of dancing involved dancing couples from across Victoria and interstate.

The Northern District Dance Association’s feature ball on Saturday night attracted 113 people for five hours of dancing at the Kerang Memorial Hall.

It was the association’s 42nd annual dance weekend, with events on Saturday night and Sunday.

Some visitors remained for the association’s weekly dance last night.

Association secretary, Denise Fehring said that many couples return annually as part of a journey attending a series of dance events around rural areas and treasurer, Desiree Hebb described the dance scene as “like family”.

Association president, Harvey Jobling said that one visitor described the Kerang dance as the best one he had attended all year.

“People come back because we are friendly and they have a good time here,” he said.

Mrs Fehring said that the association appreciated considerable community and business support from Cohuna and Kerang.

Gannawarra mayor, Cr Lorraine Learmonth welcomed the visitors and encouraged them to “look around our district” and to return for future visits.
