HDFNL – Bombers lead reduced

LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER remains on top of the Heathcote District Football Netball League ladder with two rounds remaining.

North Bendigo’s 120-point win against White Hills was not enough to dislodge the Bombers from top spot, despite observing the bye at the weekend.

The result reduced the margin between last season’s grand finalists, who are both 12-2 so far in season 2016, to 1.23 per cent.

Three teams are still in with a chance to finish as minor premiers, with third-placed Huntly needing both the Bombers to lose to ninth-placed Heathcote and the Bulldogs to lose to sixth-placed Mount Pleasant this weekend to have any hope of reclaiming first spot.

If North Bendigo defeats the Blues by a larger margin than the Bombers defeat the Saints, the reigning premiers will go into the final round of matches on top of the ladder.

However, Leitchville/Gunbower has an easier final round fixture than their premiership aspirants, with the Bombers taking on fifth-placed Elmore – a side it defeated by more than 100 points in round nine – and the Bulldogs to play the Hawks.
