Wharf works

THE riverscape at Koondrook is progressively taking on a new look.

The $2 million Murray River wharf project is taking shape and is on schedule for completion before the end of the year.

It is being constructed adjacent to Apex Park and in the vicinity of a former wharf.

Gannawarra mayor, Cr Lorraine Learmonth said that the innovative project is expected to transform and bolster the region’s maritime tourism.

“The wharf will attract more visitors to Koondrook and the surrounding area,” she said.

A specialist maritime construction firm is building the wharf with a crew of 15 employed.

Red gum timber from the adjacent local sawmill, Arbuthnot Sawmills, is being used on the decking and uprights.

One of the key proponents of the project, the Koondrook Development Committee is hoping that the wharf will attract more paddlesteamer traffic to the area.
