Stage set for speakers

FOUR Cohuna Consolidated School students will represent their peers at tonight’s Lions Club of Cohuna Junior Public Speaking Awards.

Grade three to six students tested their public speaking skills during judging on Wednesday as part of the first stage of the popular competition.

Grade three student, Braia Denton – who spoke about her “secret life as a superhero” – and grade four pupil, Ava Treacy – whose topic was “an Olympic surfer” – will represent the school in the grade three and four section.

Grade six students Jemma Baxter, who spoke about a “family lawyer” and Ashtyn Wright, whose presentation focused on “an Olympic swimmer” will compete in the grade five and six section.

“Some years you may have one to two students jump out at you in relation to their performance, but not this year,” Lions Club of Cohuna member and event judge, Norm Walkington said.

“It is great to see the school has embraced the program.”

Winners of tonight’s competition, which also includes students from St Mary’s Cohuna, will represent the town at the zone finals, occurring at Cohuna Consolidated School on Sunday, August 7.
