More farm flows

WATER allocations continue to rise on the back of steady rain in the catchments.

Northern Victoria resource manager Mark Bailey announced yesterday that there had been an increase in 2016/17 seasonal determinations in all systems.

The Murray system has increased by 11 per cent to 35 per cent of high-reliability water shares, while the Goulburn system has increased by 14 per cent to 39 per cent.

The Campaspe system has moved from zero per cent to 21 per cent and the Loddon system from zero per cent to 10 per cent.

Dr Bailey said the regular fronts bringing rainfall continued to increase water resource availability across northern Victoria.

“There have been good flows into the major storages since the last update of seasonal determinations,” Dr Bailey said.

“There is now enough water to meet all river loss and evaporation losses in the Broken, Campaspe, Loddon and Bullarook systems and deliver all carried over water.”

“With the seasonal determinations rising above 30 per cent in the Murray and Goulburn systems, early season reserves for 2017/18 are being established. These reserves will be fully established when the Murray system seasonal determination is 44 per cent and the Goulburn system is 50 per cent.” Dr Bailey said.

The next seasonal determination announcement will be released on Monday, August 15 and will include an updated outlook.
